William A. Schnurr, Jr.

William A. Schnurr, Jr., age 74, of Voorhees, NJ, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late William A. Schnurr, Sr. and Evelyn Schnurr (nee Soullard).

William “Bill” graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School and continued his studies at Cooper Union, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. He later received his Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, and went on to complete his Juris Doctor at Rutgers Law School.

Bill proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard in both the active force and reserve, retiring as a Commander after 22 years of dedicated service. Concurrently, Bill worked for 25 years at the American Water Works, and later served as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of New Jersey.

Above all, Bill treasured his family. He was a beloved husband, devoted father, and loving grandfather who never missed an opportunity to support his grandchildren in their sports and activities, including karate and soccer. He also enjoyed hiking, camping, woodworking, researching his family’s genealogy, and any time spent outdoors.

William was predeceased by his son, William A. Schnurr, III.

He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 53 years, Kathleen “Kat” Schnurr (nee Meyer); his sons, Peter Schnurr (Sarah) and Michael Schnurr (Lucretia); and his cherished grandchildren, William, Nathaniel, Lucretia, Elijah, Evelyn, Elizabeth, and Hannah. He is also survived by his siblings, Vincent Schnurr (Lisa), Philip Schnurr (Kim), Julia Schnurr, Peter Schnurr (Karen), and Joseph Schnurr (Shawdee); sisters-in-law, Patricia Meyer and Jeanne Hyde (Kevin); and many loving nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Kathy requests that any contributions in Bill’s memory be made in support of either the Child Life Program at Virtua Health, which provided wonderful support to Bill’s grandchildren during this time, or the WE Serve Colleague Community, which arranged a fitting bedside military veteran’s service for him.
