Russell Young

Russell G. Young III, 71, of Atlantic City, passed away on July 3, 2025.

Russ loved nature. He was passionate about trees, farms, soil, flowers and greenhouses - all things botanical. From his plant store Little Greens in Merchantville to Parker Plants in Atlantic City, Russ had an amazing career in horticulture.

A favorite time was spent in Swedesboro building a greenhouse out of old cold frames with his father. In the 1990's, Russ was known as the "Herb Man" at Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia, his cart in center court overflowing with potted plants. (Basil was his specialty.)

Along the way, Russ often chose the road less traveled - sometimes having to turn back ... re-group ... and strike out on a different course. But in the end his satisfaction came from knowing he didn't chase somebody else's dream, or march to the beat of somebody else's drum. We will miss you, Russ. There was nobody else quite like you.

Russ is predeceased by his parents, Russell G. and Marjorie Young, and survived by his wife Pamela Young (nee Bendler), sister Linda Young Scheflen and her husband Richard, brother-in-law Dale Bendler (Sandra), nieces Courtney and Ashley, and nephews Drew, Alex and Travis. He is also survived by a group of close friends dating back to his childhood days in Pennsauken.

A celebration of life is planned for the fall.
