Richard "Rich" Gugel

October 25, 1968 — September 30, 2025

Richard "Rich" Gugel, 56, passed away peacefully at home on September 30, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on October 25, 1968, in Camden, NJ, to Robert and Mary Gugel, Rich built a life defined by hard work, generosity, and joy. For over 30 years, he owned and operated Rich's Custom Carpets, LLC alongside his best friend, Duane Stevens. His craft went far beyond business-Rich gave his time and skills freely, donating countless hours to Habitat for Humanity and other organizations in need.

Outside of work, Rich found happiness as a member of Square Circle Sportsman Club, where he enjoyed time at the shooting range. But more than anything, his greatest joy was being with his family-the role he cherished above all was being a husband, father, and "Pops."

Rich is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years, Melisa; his daughter, Alicia Norquist, his son in law, Artur, and their son, Artur Jr., who was his pride and joy. He is also survived by his siblings, Donna Matonti (Mike) and Mark Gugel; his brother-in-laws, Warren Butch (Mary), Joseph Hunt (Christine), Shawn Hall (Michael); and his loving in-laws, Phyllis and Robert Hunt; and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Gugel; his brother, Robert Gugel Jr.; his sisters, May Gibson and Mary Butch; and his brother-in-law, Michael Hunt.

Rich was the kind of man who lit up every room he entered. With his humor, warmth, and selflessness, he touched countless lives. He was always the first to lend a helping hand, often giving more of himself than he ever asked in return.

In keeping with Rich's wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. A private cremation will take place, and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory.

Rich will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter, and the love he gave so freely. To his family, he will forever be the best husband, dad, and "Pops." To his friends, he will always be remembered as someone who made life brighter just by being there.
