Paul A. Mercurio Sr.

Paul Anthony Mercurio, Sr., age 84, of Glassboro, New Jersey, passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026.

Paul was the beloved father of Donna Cannuli, Paul (Cheryl) Mercurio, Joan Greenbaum and Lisa Bromfield along with his step-child Jennifer Stadler and Debra (Matthew) Benner. He was blessed with seven beautiful grandchildren: Charles Cannuli, Samantha Greenbaum, Daria Cannuli, Jessica Greenbaum, Paul Mercurio, Ava Mercurio and Brayden Webb.

How does one describe Paul?

Paul lived a life that very few people ever experienced. He was one of a kind-a man with an entrepreneurial spirit, an incredible gift of saying nothing but absorbing everything, and a talent for selling about anything to anyone. He could sell a truck, new or old, to almost anybody, with or without credit. Somehow, he always made it work. He loved the years he spent as a Philadelphia Police officer. Paul believed being a retired cop gave him carte blanch on the highway.

Paul had a way of enjoying life on his own terms. He loved the things that made him happy-a motorcycle ride, taking the Corvette out for a spin, traveling, and cruising around the open seas with his wife, Karol. He loved visiting the West Coast and making memories, sharing stories and plenty of laughs with the Jablons.

And then there was Paul and a good sale at ShopRite.

If something was on sale, Paul believed it was not just a good deal-it was something he needed. The garage became a testament to that philosophy, filled with possessions that may not have been necessary, but somehow seemed particularly important at the time. If it was on sale, it was a want...not necessarily a need. Every day he was off to ShopRite with his circular in hand to buy things not needed as well as his daily lottery tickets. To this day, he never broke even but he loved the thought of a big payout.

Those little things are what made Paul, Paul.

But for all the adventures, the cars, the motorcycles, the traveling, and the deals, what Paul loved most was actually quite simple.

He loved being home with his wife.

There was nothing better for Paul than sitting on the sofa, watching television with his little pup, Teddie, by his side, and turning on the fireplace on a cold winter's night. That was his happy place. That was where he was most comfortable, surrounded by the simple things and his wife and dog he loved.

Paul had a big (but hidden) personality, a big heart, and a life filled with stories. He made people laugh, sometimes shake their heads, and always remember him. He was a husband, a father, a step father a grandfather, a friend, and a man who lived life in his own unmistakable way.

Paul leaves behind not only the people who loved him, but also countless memories-stories that will be told over and over again, usually with a laugh, sometimes with a tear, and always with love.

And perhaps that is the greatest legacy anyone can leave behind: having lived a life that people will remember.

Paul certainly did.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Visitation with the family followed by a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026 with a visitation with the family from 10:00AM to 11:00am and a Mass starting at 11:00am at the Saint Bridget University Parish, 125 Church St, Glassboro, NJ 08028. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Samaritan Center (Food Bank), 125-A East High Street, Glassboro, NJ 08028. Paul was deeply devoted to his church and to helping others, and the family feels that supporting the food bank in his memory is a fitting way to honor his generous and caring spirit.
