Michael James Scott, Sr., 84, of Atco, New Jersey, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Friday, January 2, 2026.
Michael leaves behind his beloved wife, Joan K. Scott (née Morrison); his sons: Jeffrey (Margaret) and Michael, Jr. (Mary); Kenneth, Gregory; his stepsons: Scott Hurley (Luanne); Jerry Rhoads (Tyra); and his granddaughters, Satori and Sophia. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. Michael was predeceased by his sisters: Meredith Brown and Virginia Prince.
A proud American, Michael served his country for 30 years in the United States Navy, retiring with the rank of Master Chief. During his military career, he served in the Cuban Missile Crisis blockade and in Vietnam. His service took him aboard the USS Saratoga, and the USS Long Beach and many others. His dedication, discipline, and patriotism were a defining part of his life.
After his military service, Michael built a distinguished civilian career as a technical writer, working with RCA, GE, and Lockheed Martin on the AEGIS radar systems training manuals. He was also highly accomplished academically, earning a Bachelor's degree in Electricity and Electronic Engineering and a Master's degree in Business Administration.
In his younger years, Michael loved the outdoors and found joy in camping, fishing, and a good cup of coffee. He was active with the Boy Scouts of America and the Marching Band Boosters, always willing to give his time and support to the people he cared about. He also enjoyed building and woodworking projects, and as an avid reader, he especially loved the works of Louis L'Amour, William Johnstone, and classic Western and mountain man stories.
Michael will be remembered for his strength, intelligence, dedication to family, and the steady, dependable presence he brought to the lives of those around him.
