Michael A. Allen, age 86, of Voorhees, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on January 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Kansas City, MO, to the late George Allen and Florence Neiderhiser née Jones.
Michael proudly served in the United States Coast Guard during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1967 and dedicated a total of 21 years to the USCG. He retired with honor as a Chief Warrant Officer CW04, a rank that reflected his leadership, skill, and unwavering commitment to his country. A true lover of the water and fishing, Michael felt most at home near the St. Lawrence River in upstate NY where he and his wife spent many summers with family.
Michael and his family were blessed that he received a heart transplant at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania thirty years ago, allowing them more time together. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing guitar, and golfing. Above all, Michael cherished time spent with his family. He was known for hosting large family picnics and horseshoe tournaments, creating treasured memories for all who attended. He was especially proud to be a grandfather and great-grandfather, and he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren beyond measure.
Michael was predeceased by his beloved wife, Catherine Allen, his brothers Gary, Steve, Bobby, Ben and Bill, his sister Myrna and his grandson, Michael Francis, Jr.
He is survived by his brother Cliff, his sisters Sybil, Lisa and Eve, his children: Cathy Lorenzo (Michael), Michael Allen (Michele), Jim Allen (Hope), and Elizabeth Bortz (Edward); his grandchildren: Joe, Jenny, Matt, Gabriela, Michael, Jess, Corinne, Alexa, Andrew, and Austin; his great-grandchildren: Joey, Angelina, Luci, Brooklyn, Noah, Reign, Sutton, Liam, Jake, Kori, and Wes; and his beloved cat, Cat.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Michael's viewing on Saturday, January 31, 2026, from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 27 Kresson-Gibbsboro Road, Gibbsboro, NJ 08026. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Berlin, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his memory to one of the following: The Holy Spirit Horse Farm and Sanctuary, (the new home for his companion, Cat), Disabled American Vets (DAV) or the American Heart Association.
