Mary-Gayle Finkbeiner

August 10, 1940 — May 14, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary- Gayle Finkbeiner (nee Putman) of Belleplain, NJ, a beloved mother, dedicated educator, and cherished friend, who left us on May 14, 2026, in Atco, NJ. Born on August 10, 1940, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Mary-Gayle carried the spirit of her home state throughout her life.

Mary-Gayle devoted her life to education. She earned her bachelor's degree from Glassboro State College and went on to influence generations of students through her distinguished career with Hammonton Elementary School and Estell Manor School. A passionate advocate for her students, she was named Teacher of the Year and received many other honors in recognition of her dedication to their success and well-being. More than a teacher, she inspired a love of learning and showed genuine care for every student she taught.

Beyond her role as an educator, Mary-Gayle was a vibrant soul who found joy in life's simple pleasures. An avid reader and talented pianist, she cherished time spent outdoors in the sunshine, adored animals, and loved being on the boat with her family. Her love for the outdoors was matched only by her devotion to those she held dear. She treasured creating precious memories with her daughter, Rebecca Joas, and son-in-law, Michael Joas, and took immense pride in her grandchildren, who brought endless light to her life.

In her quieter moments, Mary-Gayle enjoyed watching her favorite soap opera, General Hospital, a small indulgence that reflected her appreciation for storytelling in all forms. She was a source of kindness and wisdom, always willing to lend a helping hand and advocate for higher education in her community.

Mary-Gayle's legacy of love and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Joas, and son-in-law, Michael Joas; her sister, Linda Carlson (Phillip); her grandchildren, William Joas (Leeann), Jacquelyn Foy (Curt), Jennifer Howlett (Ryan), Michael Joas, Jr. (Parker), and Ashley Loper (Blake); and eight great-grandchildren, with two more on the way. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Finkbeiner; her niece, Karen Sue Carlson Solitto; and her parents, Hal and Signa Putman (née Pope).

Cremation will be held privately at LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home & Crematory in Atco, NJ. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Condolences may be shared on her online guestbook.
