Joseph Scurti

August 29, 1956 — September 30, 2025

Joseph Dominic Scurti, Jr. of Chesilhurst, NJ passed away on September 30, 2025 surrounded by his family.

Devoted husband of Joyce Scurti and father of the late Christina Perloff (Ben), Jacquelyn Gates (Wes), Nicole Thilker (Mike), Joseph Scurti (Alex), and Stephen Scurti (Cassie). Loving grandfather of Natalie, Anna, Henley, Colby, Hannah, Carly, and JJ. Beloved brother of Kimberly Meisenzahl (Bruce) and the late Dominic Scurti. Proud son of the late Joseph Scurti Sr. He is also survived by his aunt and many nephews and cousins whom he loved.

Joe grew up in West Berlin, NJ, where he formed many lasting friendships and maintained significant pride in his hometown. He had a story for every street, and one of his favorite events was the annual West Berlin Parade where he attended with his family and friends every Fourth of July. He worked for B&B Custom Drywall for 38 years as a foreman before retiring in 2020.

Joe married his life partner Joyce in 1976 and shared nearly 50 cherished years together. They settled in Chesilhurst, NJ in 1981 and raised their 5 children. Although often unspoken, Joe expressed his love and appreciation for his wife and children through unwavering support, effort, and presence that held more meaning than words could ever convey. His proudest accomplishment in life was always his children and long-awaited grandchildren. Joe prioritized keeping his family together whenever possible and organized numerous family gatherings.

An avid outdoorsman and talented athlete, Joe enjoyed many hobbies including baseball, golfing, hunting, and fishing. He spent a lifetime in nature, filled with countless frigid mornings on "Buck Mountain" in Tioga County, PA or making a drift for striper in the Delaware Bay. As a member of several traveling fast-pitch softball teams, Joe manned the outfield and was part of a championship team in 1984. A natural competitor, he relished any opportunity to showcase his skills, whether that be playing bocce ball at the yearly family picnic or making a birdie on the golf course. He especially took great pleasure in watching all his children's and grandchildren's sporting events and school activities.

In his most recent years, Joe enjoyed retirement by babysitting his many grandchildren. "Pop pop", as he was affectionately known by his grandchildren, was his favorite calling and what he took the most pride in. Joe constantly shared pictures and life updates of his children and grandchildren to anyone who would listen. He even became self-taught in posting on social media, allowing him to further expand his viewing audience. Joe made many weekend trips to the mountain house in Westfield, PA with his best friend Leroy, where they enjoyed hunting, golfing, and hanging out with the club. He played golf as often as he could, and accepted any fishing invites he was offered. In his down time at home, he appreciated being accompanied by his canine companion Chester, a German Shorthaired Pointer he had always wanted.

Joe's passing comes as a heartache to all those around him, as his playfulness and humor made any social setting one to remember. His steadfast belief in his loved ones and his spirit of living life to the fullest will continue to influence the lives of all those who knew him.
