Janet Marie Cuthbert
Age 70 of Clementon, New Jersey took Jesus's hand while peacefully resting next to her daughter on August 30, 2025
Janet leaves behind a legacy of faith and love. Her life is a God Story.
Beloved wife of late Daniel Cuthbert. Darling mother of Jaclyn Fanelli (Evan Graham). Loving sister to Sharon Lee (Late Patrick McCauley) and Frank Jr. (Linda Snuffin). Cherished Aunt of Patrick (Angeles) Heather (Dorien), Shannon (John), Jeffrey (Carissa), and Laura (Jeoferson) and was greatly adored by all the little children in her life. She found incredible joy spending time with Jupiter, Cullan, Holden, Jaiden and Jocelyn. She also leaves behind her fur baby, Sandi, a 14-year-old yellow Lab.
Janet was born in Camden, New Jersey on March 30, 1955, to her loving and legendary parents, the late Frank and Anne-Marie Snuffin.
She was the first daughter of three children. Janet had incredible memories of growing up on Bartram Avenue that she reminisced of often. Her favorite childhood memories were summers at Grassy Sound in North Wildwood with her Grandparents.
At nine years old, she gave her life to Christ. The photo of Jesus she chose that day hung over her bed from that day on, for the remainder of her life. Jesus was her constant. She attended Atco United Methodist Church as a child with her mother. As a young girl, she always remembered being shown love and that she had always been provided with everything she needed. And they also made sure she went to church.
She was an Atcoette, a Girl Scout, and a Missonette at church. As a teenager she was active daily with the youth group. Even then she carried God's news of Salvation outside the church, holding prayer circles in the halls of Edgewood High School.
Janet became a Mother on January 8, 1979, to her beloved Jaclyn. Motherhood was her greatest joy and gift throughout her entire lifetime. She raised her daughter to be strong, independent and compassionate. There was no end to her love and adoration for her only child Jaclyn to whom she handed down a rock-solid foundation of faith and wisdom.
Janet was dedicated to her family and fiercely loyal. She created an atmosphere of joy at every family gathering with her presence. All her devotion in life was to them.
Janet served the United States Third Circuit Court of Appeals for over 25 years as a Federal Judge Clerk and Technology Assistant in Philadelphia. She loved taking the train over to Philly because she would potentially see her sister or niece and nephew on that train ride. She made lifelong friends at the courthouse that she absolutely cherished during that time.
Janet learned from her father to fix things and not just discard something broken. In a way she did that spiritually for those around her too. Sewing, electrical work, light carpentry, gardening, ministering, words of hope - you name it she could do it all. Her daughter will truly miss having Mom to 'fix it.' Whatever the need, or the broken pieces Janet always found a way to put things back together again.
In 1996 she married Daniel Cuthbert. They shared 22 years of marriage and had many adventures throughout. They enjoyed taking bike rides on his motorcycle, driving through the Pine Barnes in the Jeep, camping, live music and of course, taking their puppy Sandi to play on the beach.
There was nowhere that felt more like home to Janet than being near the ocean.
As a citizen of the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape nation, her Tribal name was Japeechen. In our language that translates to "one who is along the river, bank or shore". She was incredibly proud of that heritage passed down to us through her grandmother Nellie Durham.
Recently, her greatest joy came from seeing the happiness of her daughter, nieces, and nephews, the budding families and all the children that became so special to her. She loved the old-fashioned ways our family had holidays and birthdays. Janet was the source of wisdom, always rooted in scripture, to anyone that she counseled with. Warm, compassionate, loving, she showered her friends and family with support that was in constant supply.
Janet was always joyful because her joy came from the Lord. Always blessed, always grateful, always happy - and always focused on everyone around her being happy too. She was the lighthouse of her family.
As a dedicated lifelong congregation member of the Atco and Trinity United Methodist churches, Janet was an 'every Sunday, same pew' kind of lady.
Most recently she was an integral part of the Atco United Methodist Church's new thrift store. She spent the last 10 months working tirelessly to ensure its successful launch. In addition to our local churches, she was the admin for a Facebook page devoted to Sisters in Christ. Through that online community she provided daily devotionals, prayers and scriptures for others, for 14 years. People on other continents have sent her daughter messages that she prayed with them and got them through some of the toughest times of their lives by sharing God's word.
She was genuinely excited to see you, every time she did. And you could feel it. The light of Christ radiated from her through the sparkle in her eye, the beam of her smile, and the joyfulness of her laughter. Her wish was that her life would reflect a testimony to God of love and faithfulness. Every day she was sowing seeds of salvation and telling others about God's love.
Janet will be missed to an immeasurable degree. Truly, she was an angel and showed us all what it means to live and fulfill your assignment from Christ. Her faith, love, and strength will be forever an inspiration to those who were blessed to know her.
