James R. Sonny Hamilton

James R. “Sonny” Hamilton, 86, of Gibbsboro, NJ passed away on Wednesday October 3, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth “Betty” Hamilton. Loving father of James Hamilton, Jr., Charles Hamilton (Linda), Patricia Yip (Mike) and Liz Hamilton. Proud grandfather of 14 and great-grandfather of 10. He is also survived and will be sadly missed by his sister-in-law Margaret Dolce and brothers-in-law, William Gardopee and John Smagalla as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Bessie Gallagher. Mr. Hamilton was born in Philadelphia, PA and has resided in Gibbsboro for 52 years. Sonny proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War and remained active in veteran’s affairs throughout his life. He went on to work as a steamfitter with Steamfitters Local 420 in Philadelphia, PA. Sonny was a dedicated member of the Gibbsboro community, where he served on town council for 20 years. He was also a 42-year member of American Legion Post 371 in Gibbsboro. Viewing will be held on Sunday October 7, 2018 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, and again on Monday October 8, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Leroy P. Wooster Funeral Home and Crematory, 441 White Horse Pike, Atco, NJ. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Gibbsboro, NJ.
