James Hamilton, Jr.

James R. Hamilton, Jr., age 67, of Atco, NJ, passed away on August 21, 2025.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, James was the beloved son of the late James R. Hamilton and Elizabeth V. Hamilton (nee McKenty). He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1979-1982 during the Iran Hostage Crisis. For his dedicated service, he was awarded four combat ribbons, including the Navy Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation Order Medal.

James had a deep love for music. He enjoyed watching the string bands and attending countless classic rock concerts throughout the years. He was also an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan, never missing a chance to cheer on his teams. James was a lifetime member of VFW Post 7334 and American Legion Post 371, where he was proud to be part of a community of fellow veterans.

He will be deeply missed by his siblings, Patricia Hamilton, Charles Hamilton (Linda), and Elizabeth Hamilton; his nieces and nephews, Justin Walsh (Jacqueline), Jill Kernan (Eugene), Thomas Hamilton (Christina), Erin Tilghman (Nate), Sean Hamilton, Michael Hamilton (Jennifer), Brandon Hamilton, Matthew Hamilton (Rebecca), Gabrielle Hamilton, Melissa Shinn, and Charles O'Neill (Marzena); his uncle, John Smagalla; as well as many loving cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Monday, August 25, 2025, from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm at Our Lady of Hope Parish, St Agnes Church, 701 Little Gloucester Road, Blackwood, NJ 08012. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00pm. Interment with military honors will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Gibbsboro, NJ.
