Jamal Jerome Coleman

July 10, 1985 — March 2, 2026

Jamal Jerome Coleman was born on July 10th, 1985, to the late Joseph Coleman, Jr. and late Tonya Coleman-Palmer. He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Michelle Leatherbury.

From an early age, Jamal loved football, especially the Philadelphia Eagles. He graduated from Winslow township high school with the class of 2003, where he developed problem-solving and independent work skills through woodworking and science courses.

Jamal had a deep love of the open road and turned that passion into a meaningful career, serving the community by transporting clients to an adult daycare facility. He later worked as a driver for an oil company and then spent many years with New Jersey Transit.

Jamal took great pride in his work and found joy behind the wheel, connecting people and places.

In his free time, he embraced life to the fullest. Music was a large part of who he was. Jamal also known as DJJBOOG -enjoyed DJing and bringing people together for celebrations.

He loved riding his motorcycle and found peace while fishing and spending time at the gun range, appreciating the focus and skill it required. Above all, he treasured spending quality time with family and friends.

Jamal met the love of his life, Sylvia, while DJing at a party. After several years together, their love led them to the altar in 2015. Together they built a loving, beautiful family.

After a long and courageous battle with chronic illness, Jamal passed away on March 2nd, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of strength, love, and resilience.

He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Sylvia Washington Coleman; stepmother, Lorraine Coleman; and his four children: Yusef Washington, Lawrence Washington, Tymire Coleman, and Iyonna Coleman. He is also survived by his sister, Sentressa White (Mark); his brother, Joseph Coleman III (Brendai); his grandmother, Lucille Brooks; his grandfather, Joseph Coleman, Sr.; his aunts, Zebrina Coleman, Tanya Purnell (Keith), and Beverly Marsh; his brother-in-law, Anthony Washington; and his bonus brother, Ryan Stevenson.
