Harry M. Chambers, a beloved husband, father, and community leader, passed away on June 4th, 2026, in Berlin, New Jersey, at the age of 82. Born on January 2nd, 1944, in Camden, New Jersey, Harry lived a life marked by service, devotion, and a passion for connection within his community.

Harry proudly served in the United States Army, embodying the values of duty and commitment that would define his life's work. He had a remarkable career spanning 33 years at Verizon, where his leadership as a supervisor impacted many. Yet, while he enjoyed his role, it was his time spent as a crossing guard for the Clayton schools, a cherished position he held for a decade, that brought him the most joy and fulfillment. Harry was truly dedicated to the safety and well-being of the children he guided daily, earning respect and admiration from parents and students alike.

Harry was also deeply engaged with his community beyond his professional life. He made lasting impressions through his involvement in various organizations, including the Independent Umpire Association, the South Jersey Men's Senior Baseball League, the NJ Referee Soccer Association, the Pitman VFW Post 6469, the Pitman Jaycees, and the Rotary Club. His commitment to youth sports was exemplary; he served as a baseball coach for Westville and Pitman, striving to instill in young athletes not just skills in their sport but also the values of teamwork, respect, and perseverance. In recognition of his dedication, he was honored as the NJ Softball Official of the Year by the NJSIAA.

Harry leaves behind his beloved wife, Jo-Anne Chambers (nee Moran), cherished children, Jennifer Smedley (Michael), and Scott Chamers (Antonella), granddaughter, Claire, brother, Thomas Chambers as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Anna Chambers (nee Sanderlin), and his siblings, William Chambers, George Chambers, and Julia Boylan.

Cremation and funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home & Crematory in Atco, NJ. Services will be held privately. Condolences may be shared on Harry's online guest book.
