With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Donovan “Donny” Herring of Philadelphia, PA, who passed away on April 8, 2026, at the age of 33.
Donny was a devoted husband and cherished son, known for his charisma, sharp mind, and unapologetic honesty. Naturally curious, he engaged deeply with the world around him, spoke his mind, and stood firm in who he was as a man.
In his youth, Donny was a Boy Scout at Bright Hope Baptist Church, where he was guided by strong mentors, Rev. Kevin Johnson, Rev. George Taylor, and Nana, who helped shape him into the man he became.
He had a heart of gold and cared deeply for those in his life. He loved deeply and in his own way. Though quick-tempered at times, he worked daily to overcome personal struggles. In his earlier years, he faced challenges and difficult circumstances but ultimately made the choice to change his path, showing growth, resilience, and a sense of accountability. He embraced a laid-back approach to life and how he chose to unwind.
Donny was creative and expressive. He had a deep love for anime, music, and video games, and found his voice through rapping and DJing. As a child, he enjoyed playing football. He also had a natural gift for cooking and was a true foodie. He loved his dog, Tigre, who was a special companion in his life. His humor and energy left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He deeply valued his friendships, often turning brief conversations into long, meaningful exchanges, and remained consistently present in the lives of those he cared about.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lavorgese James; his father, William Lewis Herring; his mother, DeAnn Pratt-Wilson; his brother, Darius Ellis; his maternal grandmother, Dorrine Jean Pratt; his grandfather, Larry T. Wilson; his aunts, Ebonie Pratt, Crystal Sampson, Kristina Bohn, Elaine L. Jalloh, Tonya Carpenter, Sheryl Herring, Lauren M. Wilson, Barbara Jones, Brenda Draper, Rhonda Wilson, and Trina D. Herring; his uncles, Anthony Carpenter, Ibrahim Jalloh, Oscar Lewis Herring Jr., Mario Rutling Sr., Howard Wilson, Aaron Draper, and Jeff Jones; his great aunts, Lorraine Outterbridge, Linda Wood, Jacqueline Mallory, and Elaine L. Jalloh; his great uncles, Alfred Pratt and Anthony Carpenter; his cousins, Sydney Pratt, Samaya Quinones, Oscar Lewis Herring III, Zaire Lewis Herring, Kiara Herring (wife of Zaire), Mariah Carpenter, Tyran Carpenter, Kadyjah Jalloh, Micah Jalloh, Marcus Rutling, Anthony Rutling, Joseph Rutling, Mario Rutling, Stephanie, Kyle, Derek, Dasia, Angela Howell, Kadyjah Haley, Justin Haley, and Tyrone Byrd. Younger relatives include Zahmora Herring, Zaian Herring, Kaiden Herring, Zaire Jr. Herring, and Kahleena Herring, along with a host of extended family who will carry his memory forward.
In accordance with his wishes, Donny did not desire a traditional funeral service. A private viewing for close family, friends, and loved ones will be held, followed by cremation, honoring both his wishes and a family compromise.
He will be remembered for his voice, his growth, and the impact he left on those who knew him. His presence will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Forever loved. Forever missed.

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away
