Donovan W. Herring

March 2, 1993 — April 8, 2026

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Donovan "Donny" Herring of Philadelphia, PA, who passed on April 8, 2026, at the age of 33.

Donny was a devoted husband and cherished son, known for his charisma, sharp mind, and unapologetic honesty. Naturally curious, he engaged deeply with the world around him, spoke his mind, and stood firm in who he was.

In his youth, Donny was a boycott leader at Bright Hope Baptist Church, where he was guided by strong mentors, Rev. Kevin Johnson, Rev. George Taylor, and Nana, who helped shape him into the man he became. He was also a Boy Scout under the leadership of Ibrahim Jalloh, an experience that contributed to his discipline and growth.

He had a heart of gold and cared deeply for those in his life. Though quick-tempered at times, he fought daily to overcome personal struggles. In his earlier years, he faced challenges and difficult circumstances but ultimately made the choice to change his path, showing growth, resilience, and accountability.

Donny was creative and expressive. He loved anime, music, and video games, and found his voice through rapping and DJing. As a child, he enjoyed playing football. He also had a natural gift for cooking and was a true foodie. He loved his dog, Tigre, who was a special companion in his life. His humor and energy left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He deeply valued his friendships, often turning brief conversations into long, meaningful exchanges. Donny loved his friends and stayed present in their lives.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lavorgese James; his father, William Lewis Herring; his mother, DeAnn Pratt-Wilson; his brother, Darius Ellis; his maternal grandmother, Dorrine Jean Pratt; his aunts, Ebonie Pratt, Crystal Sampson, Kristina Bohn, Elaine L. Jalloh, and Trina D. Herring; his uncles, Anthony Carpenter, Ibriham Jalloh, and Oscar Lewis Herring Jr.; his cousins, Sydney Pratt, Samaya Quinones, Oscar Lewis Herring III, Zaire Lewis Herring, and Kiara Kahleena (wife of Zaire); his second cousins, Zahmora Herring, Zaian Herring, Kaiden Herring, and Zaire Jr. Herring; and a host of extended family who will carry his memory forward.

In accordance with his wishes, Donny did not desire a traditional funeral service. A private viewing for close family and loved ones will be held, followed by cremation, honoring both his wishes and a family compromise.

He will be remembered for his voice, his growth, and the impact he left on those who knew him.

Forever loved. Forever missed.

Proverb: 3: 5-6

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart

and lean not on your own understanding;

6 in all your ways submit to him,

and he will make your paths straight.
