David J. Reedy, III

April 2, 1946 — May 15, 2025

A loyal husband, playful Grandfather & Great Grandfather, caring dog dad, and passionate fan of Bob Dylan.

David J. Reedy III, 79, of Southampton, NJ (previously Easton, PA; originally Scranton, PA), passed peacefully at home on May 15, 2025 serenaded by his favorite poet-lyricist, Bob Dylan.

Dave was born in Scranton, PA in 1946 to late David J. Reedy Jr. & Mary (Fordham) Reedy. He attended Scranton Preparatory School before studying English at the University of Scranton, and obtaining multiple master's degrees in Education at Marywood University & the University of Scranton. He went on to work as a Reading Specialist for Scranton Public Schools for 42 years and a writing tutor at Marywood University for 32 years.

Everyone who knew Dave knew how much he loved music. The soundtrack of his life included artists such as The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Jimmy Buffet, Harry Chaplin, Jack Johnson, but above all Bob Dylan. His admiration for Bob Dylan was unmatched; read all books about Bob Dylan, studied his poetic lyrics, and researched meaning behind each word. The title of #1 Bob Dylan Fan was never more fitting.

Dave met the love of his life, Kathy in 1966 at a Friday night dance at the University of Scranton. Neither thinking their relationship would develop into anything serious, they were married two years later on January 27, 1968 in Clark Summit, PA. Through the 57 years together they enjoyed many vacations to Brigantine Beach, days spent canoeing on Lake Winola, bike riding on the Delaware river trails, and evenings spent with a good drink in hand.

Though he loved music, reading, biking, his "summer therapy" gardening, and time spent at the beach; Dave's favorite role was that of a grandparent. He treasured his time initially with his 5 grandkids and lately his 11 great grandkids. He loved being their Grandfather, never failing to provide a much needed laugh or word of advice. Many memories were made at baseball games, adventures bike riding, summer vacations at their home, and on the beaches of Brigantine.

Dave was a proud Dog Dad to Charlie (2010-2022) and then Olive; treating each like the valuable family member they were. Dave's adventures riding bikes and swimming in the Delaware with Charlie were legendary. Most recently he spent countless hours relaxing on the front porch in Southampton with Olive.

Dave will always be remembered for his work ethic and dedication to his students. He was never one to sit still, he was always busy. Many days included gardening and landscaping of his home or home projects.

We couldn't have asked for a better husband, grandparent, or friend. He will be missed every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him through music, salty air, and sunshiny days.

Dave is survived by wife Kathy (Addyman), Granddaughter Jessica (Anthony), Grandson Kevin (Amber), Grandson David (Jessica), Grandson Jon (Jennafer), Grandson Timothy, 11 great grandchildren, and dog Olive.

Dave was preceded in death by his sisters Margaret and Alicia, and his dog Charlie.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions made in Dave's honor to either bestfriends.org or roomtoread.org would be greatly appreciated.
