Charlynn Rose Brazda Truitt, 84, passed away August 9, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. She was born on July 24, 1941, in Dodge City, Kansas to the parents of Charles and Alvina (Sohm) Brazda. She graduated from Dodge City Senior High School in 1959 and married Glenn Truitt. They lived in Topeka KS while Glenn was in the US Air Force. They moved back to Dodge City in 1962, where she lived until retiring and moving to New Jersey with her son Todd and his family.
Charlynn had many jobs and hobbies over the years. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., Toot & Tellem, Burkes and Family Shoe Centers, Dodge City Livestock Office, Kinely Shoes, Shangri La Café, Ambassador Cards, Wards Rentals, and retired from Bright Beginnings as a paraprofessional. Charlynn owned and operated a day care and a cleaning business that serviced homes and businesses for 25 years. She had an amazing gift of talents. Charlynn was a seamstress, wrote poetry, loved drawing and painting, cross-stitching, and woodworking. She cherished making homemade greeting cards and sending them to all her friends and relatives across the country while spreading her wonderful sense of humor. Charlynn was a member of the First Christian Church in Dodge City for 63 years. After moving to New Jersey, she became a member of The Community Church of the Nazarene in Northfield, NJ. She loved her church, and they were like a second family.
Survivors include son, Todd Truitt and wife Lynda of New Jersey; Granddaughter Lindsey Collins (Brandon), Grandson Robert Copes (Jenna); and Great-grandson Elliott Collins; Siblings, Daisy Atteberry, Betty Grider, Julia Gum, as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins and family. She is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Alvina Brazda, brother Bernard Brazda, brother David Brazda, and daughter Lori Marie Truitt.
A memorial service will be held at the Community Church of the Nazarene in Northfield, NJ on August 12 at 6:00 PM. A funeral service will take place at later date in Dodge City followed by burial in Larned, KS. Memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to the Church of the Nazarene, 2151 Zion Road, Northfield, NJ 08225.
