Santosh Chawla

Santosh Chawla, age 84, of Galloway, New Jersey, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025, surrounded by family.

Santosh was born on September 4, 1940, in Lahore, India. She was the daughter of Pyarelal and Agayavanti Narula, she was the eldest of 6 children. As a young child, she endured the difficulties of British colonization and traveled with her family to Delhi, India during the partition between India and Pakistan in 1947. In October 1957, she married Keval Krishan Chawla. Together, the couple had three sons: Rajeev, Rajesh, and Raman whom she loved greatly. One of the most difficult moments of her life was Raman’s tragic passing in 1984.

In 1987, Santosh immigrated to the United States with her family. Here, she began to establish a life for herself, and her loved ones grounded in faith and love. Santosh was deeply religious and began each day with prayer and devotion to God.

She supported her husband as a thoughtful partner, provided guidance to her sons and daughters-in-law, and was a beloved grandmother to her five grandchildren. She went beyond her role as a grandmother, helping to raise two of her grandchildren in New Jersey. To her grandchildren, she was a wise mentor, an ardent supporter, and a cherished friend.

Santosh enjoyed watching cricket, sewing clothes, completing word search puzzles, and discussing current events and politics. Her favorite pastime, however, was cooking. She was known as the best chef in the family and loved cooking big meals for her loved ones.

After her husband’s passing in 2004, Santosh became the matriarch of the Chawla family, serving as a beacon of strength and resilience.

Santosh’s passing is a great loss to her family and friends, but her memory will live on through the love and respect she inspired in those who knew her. She will forever be remembered.

Santosh’s viewing and puja will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 11:30 am, followed by cremation at LeRoy P. Wooster Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 White Horse Pike, Atco, NJ 08004.
